Rev. Tom Tucker
Pastor “Tom” came to Washougal UMC in the summer of 2014. His ministry reaches back over forty years including a time in West Africa where he was the Chaplain of the College of West Africa (a United Methodist Junior/Senior High School) in Monrovia, Liberia. He is a graduate of the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA where he earned a Master of Divinity (magna cum laude) in 1972. After serving congregations in Tigard, Monroe, and Portland, OR, he moved to Twin Falls, ID where he was senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church before his appointment as Senior Pastor to the First United Methodist Church (Cathedral of the Rockies) in Boise, ID. In 1995 he transferred to the pacific Northwest Conference and served as Senior Pastor of the Mason UMC in Tacoma, WA. In 1999 he was appointed to the Vancouver Heights UMC until his retirement in 2010.
In 2014 Pastor Tom was asked to come to Washougal UMC to serve as the pastor working ¾ time. However, we all know there is no such thing as “part-time” when it comes to doing ministry! When Tom first met with the leadership of WUMC he said, “I will come to work for you on one condition. It has to be fun!”
With a lifetime passion for mission and service, he believes that there is a place for everyone in the life of the congregation to use each person’s talents and passion for doing “all the good you can; by all the means you can; in all the ways you can; in all the places you can; at all the times you can; to all the people you can; as long as ever you can.” (John Wesley) He also believes that we are called to practice the same radical hospitality that we see in Jesus as he reached out to everyone. All are welcomed!
Tom brings that same passion and energy into the worship experience where the focus is to help us live into our mission statement that “we are becoming the people God calls us to be and doing what God calls us to do.”
Tom and his wife, Pam, live in Hazel Dell in a house that has been in the family for over 60 years. Together they have four adult children and two grandchildren. To fill the void of an empty nest, they share their home with Charlie (Golden Retriever) and Sammy (Rat Terrier).
